Mateswari Tanot Mata Ray Temple (श्रीतणोटरायमंदिर), Rajasthan

Tanot Mata Mandir is located close to India – Pakistan border in Jaisalmer district of Rajasthan, India. Temple is famous for its miracle. In 1965 India & Pakistan war, Pakistan dropped thousands of bombs to kill Indian army, but all were defused. It is believed that all was done by Goddess Mateswari Tanot. 

From that time temple is under the custody of Indian Army & all the operational work of the temple is done by Indian Army itself. Indian solder does all the work of temple even pooja wearing their uniforms.

The temple has also small museum that exhibits collections of the unexploded shells that were dropped by Pakistan.  

How to reach Tanot Mata Temple?

Tanot mata mandir distance from Jaisalmer is about 120km North West of Jaisalmer in Thar Desert of Rajasthan. To reach the temple, you can go by private cab/ two-wheeler from Jaisalmer. Apart from this, buses of Rajasthan roadways also go to Tannot. The temple is also very close to the battle site of Longewala of the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971, indeed some credit the temple for the outcome of the battle. En-route you can also visit Longewala. Travelers cannot go beyond this temple to see the Indo–Pak Border unless one gets the relevant documentation in advance from the District and Military Authorities. Do take the identity card with you.

Note: 

The Tanot Mata Temple Jaisalmer Aarti is scheduled between 6 pm to 7 pm in the Evening & between 6 am to 7 am in the morning.

You will find sand dunes all along with few small bushes on road. You can see herds of sheep & goats on the way. Beautiful landscape. Total desert. Nice to see Indira Gandhi Canal full of water after Ramgarh. You can see vegetation & farms near the canal. It is very near to Pakistan border. Last civilian point in India on border.

Tanot Rai Mata Temple is an old temple with a history of India Pakistan war of 1965. Hundreds of shells fallen here did not harm the temple. Some bombs are in display at temple. Maintained & managed by Border Security Force of India. Keep food & water with you. Very few populations.

Tanot Mata Temple, situated near the Indian border with Pakistan in Jaisalmer District, holds an intriguing history. It is believed that during the Indo-Pakistan War of 1965, the Pakistani Army dropped numerous bombs on the temple. Remarkably, none of them hit their target, and many of the bombs intended for the surrounding region of the temple did not explode at all.

The museum in the temple now displays collections of unexploded bombs dropped by Pakistan. You cannot proceed beyond this temple to witness the Indo-Pak Border without having the necessary documentation from the District and Military Authorities.

To reach the temple from Jaisalmer by road, which is surrounded by miles of sand dunes and sand mountains, takes about two hours.
